Patterns

Patterns is an illustration and design exhibition piece that focus on Asian patterns and colors. The purpose behind this show was to showcase my Asian culture. My journey started when I was scrolling through social media and came across a specific Asian pattern. I thought to myself how beautiful and detailed these patterns are. I searched for more patterns and learned that patterns have been a huge part of how we Asians tell our stories whether through painting or even in our traditional clothes.

When looking for patterns and doing research, I noticed that some of the patterns show up in a variety of different Asian cultures. At first, I wanted my art to mainly focus on Vietnamese culture, but since a lot of our art cultures are similar to others in Southeast Asia, I wanted to keep it general.

Something that surprised me when creating this work was not knowing the direction it would take. At first, it started off with me doodling on my ipad, not knowing it would take me to a full scale 3D exhibition. I am happy that I went with my gut feeling. I am excited to share my work with everyone.
