Sustaining Hues seeks to create space for respite and reflection as people round out the second year of a world-wide pandemic. Each color area offers an opportunity for people to connect with themselves in a soft, calming space. In these moments of reflection, the hope is that viewers can momentarily set down some of the emotional weight they are carrying, allowing them to take in the surrounding color and all that it might offer them.

Five artists were asked to pick a color that aligns with what they felt would be most supportive for the rest of the year, and a word that went with it. The gallery walls have been divided into five sections by each of the colors. Each section is bounded on either side by floor-to-ceiling panels creating an immersive area where viewers can take in the color as if it was surrounding them. In this way, viewers are invited to connect with the emotional resonance that color offers them, calming the visual and sensory bustle that surrounds them throughout their day.

It will take a long time for individuals and communities to process the experiences of the past eighteen months and the months to come. Sustaining Hues is an acknowledgement of the need we all have to pause in quiet and calm to connect to ourselves. As you experience each space, the artists invite you to consider these words
