Sarah Vang is a designer from Saint Paul, Minnesota. She is currently pursuing her Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design at Augsburg University. Sarah uses her everyday life as a Hmong-American along with her curiosity, exploration of the world, identity, and the human experience to design, illustrate, and create art.

My Heritage

The purpose of “My Heritage” was to learn more about my culture while also experimenting with color and perspective. It is composed of 3 digital illustrations that are 21 inches wide by 30 inches high. With this project, I specifically focused on Hmong weddings, using what I learned and already knew about. Living in a Christian household all my life, there are a lot of Hmong traditional customs, practices, and principles that I do not know of and am intrigued by about my culture.

My primary medium is digital art in Adobe Illustrator and Procreate. My art consists of narrative illustrations in a semi-realistic style of painting. When I’m not working digitally, I like to draw in my journal and practice acrylic paint and watercolor.
